Introduction

We are currently supporting a search for a Lead Platform Engineer with a high-growth, Tokyo-based company in the voice AI and telecommunications technology industry. This role offers direct ownership over a mission-critical infrastructure handling tens of millions of real-time events. It is a pivotal opportunity to drive extreme scalability, lower system latency, and mentor a high-performing engineering group.

About the Role

Operating as a platform engineering leader within the voice AI and telecommunications technology industry, you will report directly to the VP of Engineering and lead a core team of platform and SRE engineers. You will take full accountability for an AWS-native, highly available architecture, ensuring the core real-time processing engine scales seamlessly as customer volume quadruples. By establishing robust SLOs, automating deployment pipelines, and building self-service internal tools, your leadership will directly enable cross-functional product teams to ship features faster while maintaining uncompromised platform reliability.

Responsibilities

Platform Performance & Architecture Optimization

  • Re-architect and optimize real-time processing pipelines to cut p99 latency significantly while supporting a 10× increase in concurrent peak loads.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain a multi-region, auto-scaling Kubernetes environment targeted at sustaining 99.99% uptime across high-traffic seasonal spikes.
  • Drive infrastructure cost-efficiency through capacity planning, spot instance strategies, and data-driven resource right-sizing to lower unit costs per transaction.

Developer Experience & Automation

  • Build and roll out a self-service internal platform that enables product teams to provision new microservices in minutes, doubling overall release velocity.
  • Enforce Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps principles across all environments to eliminate manual toil and standardise configuration management.

Operational Excellence & Team Leadership

  • Lead incident response practices to drive down Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR) and cultivate a rigorous, blameless post-mortem operational culture.
  • Directly mentor 4–6 platform engineers, setting clear technical delivery benchmarks and preparing senior team members for domain leadership roles.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing, operating, and scaling real-time distributed platforms on AWS (e.g., EKS, Lambda, Aurora, Kinesis).
  • Background within the voice AI, telecommunications technology, or high-throughput SaaS industries.
  • Proven track record of executing double-digit latency reductions and infrastructure cost optimizations at scale.
  • Hands-on leadership experience guiding 3+ engineers through complex technical delivery and zero-downtime migrations.
  • Language proficiency: Native or near-native Japanese and Business-level English.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, a proactive ownership mindset, and a passion for engineering mentorship.

Why Apply

  • Take ownership of a scalable infrastructure platform serving tens of thousands of corporate clients and millions of end-users.
  • Direct access to executive leadership in a well-funded, Series-B growth environment with flat organizational structures.
  • High degree of technical autonomy to select tools, define operational standards, and drive architectural direction.
  • Clear career progression paths with opportunity to build and grow a top-tier platform engineering organization.
  • Competitive compensation package, including stock options/equity opportunities in a rapidly scaling business.
  • Flexible working arrangements in a central Tokyo location with a diverse, international engineering team.
