Introduction

This is a senior leadership opportunity with a global asset management firm to represent and advance its global equity investment capabilities in Japan. The role will play a central part in strengthening the firm's equity platform, supporting business growth across institutional and intermediary channels, and ensuring global investment capabilities are effectively aligned with the needs of the Japanese market.

About the Role

The successful candidate will serve as a senior representative of the firm's global equity platform in Japan, working closely with investment teams, product specialists, institutional sales, intermediary distribution, and other internal stakeholders.

The role combines product leadership, client engagement, strategic marketing, and business development. A key focus will be translating global investment capabilities and market views into compelling propositions for Japanese institutional investors, distributors, and intermediary partners.

As a senior individual contributor, the position requires strong influence and stakeholder-management capabilities, with the ability to connect global investment teams with local market requirements and help shape the firm's equity product strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the firm's global equity capabilities across institutional and intermediary channels in Japan.
  • Lead senior-level engagement with institutional investors, including banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and pension funds, as well as distributors and intermediaries.
  • Develop and execute strategic marketing and capital-raising initiatives across a broad range of global equity strategies.
  • Provide market and investment thought leadership, covering equity-market developments, portfolio positioning, macro and sector trends, and benchmark-relative performance.
  • Develop high-impact client communications and investment messaging tailored to different client segments.
  • Support intermediary and retail distribution through product training, marketing content, investment insights, and client seminars.
  • Work with global and local stakeholders to develop, adapt, and position equity solutions for the Japanese market.
  • Incorporate client feedback, competitive intelligence, market developments, and distribution requirements into product strategy.
  • Act as a key bridge between Japanese clients, distribution partners, and global investment teams.
  • Drive effective collaboration across investment, product, compliance, and multi-channel sales functions.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, market developments, and benchmark dynamics to ensure effective positioning of equity strategies.
  • Contribute to broader business growth, resource prioritisation, and the development of a scalable equity platform in Japan.

Requirements

  • Significant experience operating at a senior level within asset management, investment management, or a closely related financial-services environment.
  • Proven track record of engaging with institutional investors as well as distributors and intermediaries.
  • Strong understanding of global equity markets and investment approaches, including active and passive strategies, factor investing, ESG integration, and benchmark-driven mandates.
  • Demonstrated understanding of both institutional and intermediary/retail distribution models in Japan.
  • Strong product-marketing and positioning capabilities, with the ability to translate investment concepts into compelling client propositions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences.
  • Native-level Japanese and strong business-level English, both written and verbal.
  • Advanced presentation skills, including experience delivering client presentations, training sessions, and investment seminars.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, including knowledge of performance attribution, portfolio construction, and risk analysis.
  • Demonstrated ownership, commercial drive, and a results-oriented approach.
  • Deep understanding of the Japanese institutional and intermediary markets, including client needs, competitive dynamics, and relevant regulatory considerations.
  • Bachelor's degree or above.
  • CFA qualification strongly preferred; CMA or other relevant professional qualifications would be advantageous.

Why Apply

  • High-impact strategic mandate: Play a key role in shaping and expanding a global equity platform in the Japanese market.
  • Senior visibility: Engage directly with major institutional investors, distributors, and intermediary partners while representing a global investment franchise.
  • Global exposure: Work closely with international investment teams and product specialists, providing meaningful connectivity between global capabilities and Japanese client needs.
  • Broad commercial scope: Combine investment-product expertise with client engagement, strategic marketing, product development, and business growth.
  • Influence without direct line management: Operate as a senior individual contributor with significant influence across investment, product, sales, marketing, and compliance functions.
  • Opportunity to shape products: Use market intelligence and client feedback to influence how global equity solutions are developed and positioned for Japanese investors.
  • Thought-leadership platform: Establish a strong voice on global equity markets and investment themes across institutional and intermediary audiences.
  • Long-term platform-building opportunity: Contribute to the development of a scalable and sustainable public-equities business in Japan.
